The City of San Luis Obispo, California (SLO) was nearing the groundbreaking of its largest capital public works project in the community's history — SLO Water Plus — and needed to re-engage constituents and capture public support despite the project's technical nature. I worked with subject matter experts and creative collaborators to produce an educational project overview video that would be used as part of a comprehensive, multi-year public information campaign.
My support started with developing a simple master messaging framework for the project, followed by video storyboard and script development while art directing the design of animated illustrations depicting the key improvements to the Resource Recovery Facility and the new water treatment technology — key factors in the video's success. These messages and illustrations were used in signage and other education materials in a facility groundbreaking event, on the project website, and the video used within public tours.
